The Aam Admi Party condemned that the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) entered into an agreement with a private university which was not authorised to award degrees. The institute is jeopardising the future of hundreds of students through this agreement.
Mr. Raghav Chadha, the leader of AAP, said that FDDI entered into an agreement with a Rajasthan private university in the year 2012. Since then this private university has been awarding degrees to the students. He mentioned that the procedure is to ensure transparency like floating advertisements. However, seeking legal advice, the release of an Expression of Interest was not followed.
The agreement of FDDI ended in the year 2014, and the institute again renewed the agreement with the same varsity without following the formal procedure. He demanded that the institute has to provide valid degrees to the students.
Recently, the students of this institute filed an RTI with University Grants Commission (UGC). As per UGC, they found that private university did not have any power to award degrees. Now, the future of hundreds of students is at stake. Students made recommendations to the government regarding the issue and did not receive any response. The Managing Director of the Institute, Mr. Sameer Kumar Srivastav was unavailable for comment.
