Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune has signed an MoU with Canon India Private Limited to attract students towards film education through short term programmes. These programmes will be conducted across several towns and cities in India.
Skilling India in Film and Television (SKIFT) is an initiative started by FTII to offer skill-oriented short courses in association with State Governments, Educational institutions and Universities.
Rajyavardhan Rathore, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, was present at the signing of the MoU along with Mr. Kazutada Kobayashi, President and CEO. Rathore said that this initiative will enable FTII to bring together technology and talented youth.

According to a statement released by the ministry, FTII Pune has been preparing to introduce new courses and education trends in the field of film and television education. The statement added that the institute aims to provide quality education and affordable training for aspirants at locations were such courses are in demand.
FTII is also looking forward to align some of these short courses with the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) under the guidance of the National Skill Development Council.
Talking about the collaboration, Mr. Kazutada Kobayashi said that FTII is one of the most reputed institutes in the field and it was a proud moment for Canon to join hands with the institute for SKIFT.
As the technology partner of the SKIFT initiative, Canon will be providing free of cost high-end cameras and accessories for the cause. Canon being an international brand in digital imaging looks forward to making the initiative a success with its technological assistance.

The courses under the initiative will be started by FTII in non-metro cities including Guwahati, Vishakhapatnam, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Raipur, Raipur, Leh, Bhopal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Digital Cinematography, Screenplay Writing, Documentary Film Making, Film Criticism & Journalism, Acting and Film Appreciation are some of the courses that will be offered under SKIFT.
