The earlier plan was to make FTII an institution of excellence and put it under IIMC, which will be a deemed university. The ministry thought that FTII under IIMC would not be fruitful and therefore it was kept out. The proposal is still under consideration.
Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting informed that the decision regarding converting FTII into a deemed university is still under consideration.
The plan was to make Film and Television Institute of India - FTII, an institution of excellence and put it under IIMC which will ultimately be a deemed university.

According to the ministry, FTII under IIMC will not be fruitful due to which it was kept out. But the proposal to turn FTII into deemed university is still under consideration. However, he has not given any deadline for FTII getting the status of deemed university.
He further informed that FTII is getting maximum funds from the government. Meanwhile, he also expressed his views about the protests by students regarding the extension of the semester. As per him, FTII is working towards the academic improvement. Students will have to finish their assignments and clear the semester to move ahead. These initiatives will improve the functioning of FTII and enhance the overall academic quality.

Apart from this, the information and broadcasting ministry have allowed private FM broadcasters to broadcast AIR news both in Hindi and English language. From now on, it is mandatory for private FM broadcasters to give due credit to All India Radio (AIR) for sourcing their news. It is one of the trials done by the ministry to examine the same.
