GATE 2024 Mechanical Engineering: IISc Banglore will conduct GATE 2024 exam on February 3, 4, 10, and 11. This means that the candidates are left with only a month to prepare themselves for GATE 2024 Mechanical Engineering (ME). Before starting to take up the final preparation, the candidates should have an idea about the expected chapter-wise marks distribution of GATE 2024 ME paper. As per the latest exam pattern, the Engineering Mechanics paper is bifurcated into three sections Mechanical Engineering (72%), General Aptitude (15), and Engineering Mathematics (13%). Here, the detailed weightage for GATE 2024 Mechanical Engineering has been highlighted.

GATE 2024 Mechanical Engineering Weightage

Before moving to the expected chapter-wise weightage of GATE 2024 Mechanical Engineering, the candidates should know about the exam pattern of the ME paper mentioned below.

  • Total Number of questions asked on Engineering Mechanics Exam: 65 questions out of a total of 100 marks.
  • Type of the questions: MCQ, MSQ, and NAT
  • Marking Scheme: 1/3 for 1 mark question in MCQ; 2/3 for 2 marks question in MCQ and No Negative marking in MSQ and NAT

Find chapter-wise weightage for Engineering Mechanics (ME) and allocate time for your study plan based on the topic carrying high weightage provided in the table below..

Name of Chapter Expected Weightage
Kinetics of Rigid Body 20.81%
Kinetics of Particles 18.32 %
Kinematics of Rigid Bodies 15.44%
Truss and Frames 14.77%
Friction and its Applications 11.41%
Equilibrium 8.72%
Kinematics of Particles 5.37%
Centroid, COM, COG and MOI 4.03%
Lagrange’s Equation 1.34%

By analysing the weightage from the past several years it has been observed that the topics carrying the maximum weightage for Engineering Mechanics are Kinetics of Rigid Bodies,  Kinetics of Particles, and Kinematics of Rigid Bodies. Hence, the candidates are advised to give extra focus to practice these topics, so that the candidates can get a good score in the GATE 2024 Mechanical Engineering exam.
