GATE 2026 Admit Card likely to be Released This Week: Applicants wait for an official updateGATE 2026 Admit Card : The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati is expected to release GATE 2026 Admit Card by the end of this week, tentatively by January 17, 2026. The admit card was originally scheduled to be made available on January 2, 2026; however, the release was postponed. The official GATE 2026 website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in, has updated its notification banner with a critical alert stating that ‘The release date of the GATE 2026 admit card has been postponed. The revised release date will be announced soon’. No official explanation has been provided by the conducting authority regarding the reason for this postponement.

Due to no formal clarification, administrative sources and education experts believe that the delay may be due to ongoing technical upgrades on the portal to ensure that the servers can efficiently manage heavy traffic and multiple simultaneous downloads once the admit card is released. Other possible reasons could include the final verification of candidates’ application data or logistical preparations for conducting the examination across more than 200 centres nationwide. These explanations, however, remain speculative, as no confirmation has been issued by IIT Guwahati or the GATE organising committee.
Following the deferment of the January 2 release date, there was anticipation that the admit card might be issued around January 7, 2026, but this date passed without any official update. Meanwhile, the GATE 2026 examination schedule has already been announced, with the tests set to be conducted on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. With the examination dates approaching, candidates are increasingly anxious and are frequently checking the official GATE portal for the activation of the admit card download link.
A review of previous years’ trends shows variations in admit card release dates, with GATE 2024 admit cards also issued latest by January 15, no further dates were extended beyond this. Based on these patterns and to account for possible delays, it is considered reasonable to expect the GATE 2026 admit card to be released by mid-January, with the end of the current week being the most likely timeframe.
