Gauhati University held its annual election of the Gauhati University Teacher’s Association (GUTA) for the session 2016-2017 on Friday, April 22 at the AT Seminar Hall, Gauhati University. 277, out of the 312 registered members of the GUTA cast their votes in the election. The results were declared later in the same evening. The election process went on for few hours wherein board of members dissolved and newly appointed members were formed.
Professor Bhagavat Pran Duarah, Department of Geological Science, GU was elected as President. The GUTA general secretary Dr. Jagadish Sarma of the Sanskrit department was re-elected. Dr. Kandarpa Kumar Saikia and Samir Sarkar of the MBA department were jointly elected to the post of joint secretary. Professor Kuntala Patra of the Mathematics department and Dr. Amrit Pal Singh of the commerce department were jointly elected to the post of Vice-President. Professor Sanjay Kumar Singh of the Library Science department was elected unopposed to the post of treasurer.
The GUTA election this year was a peaceful event like every year’s university election and saw the participation of many faculties as well as the non-faculty member of the university. The functioning of the newly appointed elected members in position will soon begin.
