Moving hand in hand with the changes in the Indian Economy and Tax System, the Delhi University (DU) is planning to introduce Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the B.Com (Hons.) and B.A. Programme. The changes have been made to keep the students up-to-date with the new tax norms.

The officials of DU informed that the proposal to introduce GST has been approved by the university's academic council and is awaiting the approval of the executive council.

After being cleared the students of both the programmes mentioned above will be studying the topic as part of their curriculum.

Taxation is part of the curriculum of the students who pursue either B.Com (Hons.), B.Com or the commerce-based subjects in the B.A. Programme.

Inclusion of GST in different Programmes:

  • B.Com (Hons.): The proposal suggests that the GST be introduced in the sixth semester for the students of the B.Com (Hons.) programme. GST and Customs Law will be included in the programme as a second paper.
  • B.Com: Students of the B.Com programme will study the subject under the same title in their fifth semester as a second paper.
  • B.A. Programme: In this programme, students will be studying GST as paper 3 and paper 2. These papers will be compulsory for students who choose Taxation as an optional subject.
