Guwahati University (GU) is all set to welcome the National Assessment and Accreditation Council ( NAAC) peer team. As per the current ranking, the varsity is accredited with a B-grade by the University Grants Commission, last surveyed in the year 2010. The university is awaiting NAAC visit which is scheduled for May 2018 with a hope to see an upgrade in the NAAC grade.
Guwahati University authorities are putting in all their efforts to improve their NAAC grade and to catch the attention of prospective candidates. At present, students belonging to other states who come to Assam to study UG and PG courses are mostly attracted towards either Tezpur University or IIT Guwahati as both these two institutes are regarded as leading higher educational institutions of the state.
The authorities of the varsity have worked hard to turn the university premises into a lush green campus with sprawling lawns ahead of the NAAC visit. They are working on the infrastructure of the campus and installing solar panels and LED lights. Apart from this, the hostels and the departments have also gone through a drastic change since the last NAAC visit in 2010.
The university has also been putting emphasis on research, quality enhancement, teaching methodology, introducing sports activities and curriculum development and extension activities.
