The PG medical aspirants are not seeking postponement of NEET PG 2023 just for an extension of internship dates, but it is also for the benefit of 1.5 lakh candidates who are registered to appear for the exam.
NEET PG 2023: Since the exam date was announced, there has been a hassle among the test takers and the National Board of Examinations for the postponement of the exams. The candidates who have registered themselves to appear for the exam have been requesting the NBE to postpone the exams by 6-8 weeks. However, the NBE has not yet responded to the pleas or declared any official statement. The NBE has stated that the academic calendar is to be put in order that the pandemic has disrupted and so the exams would have to be conducted as scheduled. Candidates, on the other hand, have opposed the decision to conduct NEET PG on March 5, citing reasons such as internship cutoff date, lack of time for proper exam preparation and issues with the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) counselling schedule that might not be suitable.

Currently, there are two groups of students; one group that wants the NEET PG 2023 to be postponed, and the second group that does not want the exam to be postponed. Candidates who have suffered the postponement of exams in the last year, do not want to go through the same chaos and stress, and thus, do not want the exams to be postponed.
Meanwhile, the candidates who seek postponement of the exams want the exams to be postponed so that they get enough time to prepare for the exams, as well as do not have to wait long for the internships to be completed so that they can participate in the MCC counselling process. As per the eligibility criteria mentioned in the NEET PG Brochure, candidates shall have completed their one-year internship, to be eligible for participation in the counselling process. So, even if the candidates appear for the NEET PG 2023 exam on March 5, 2023, as scheduled, they will have to wait until they complete their internships.
Further, the candidates who are requesting an extension of the eligibility criteria for the extension dates until July or August will have no impact on the timeline. Approximately, 10,000 candidates are requesting an extension of the internship date. However, the NEET PG 2023 Postponement is not requested merely for the 10,000 candidates but for all the 1.5 lakh candidates who have registered for the exam.
