Himachal Pradesh University to Get a New Vice-Chancellor
  • Himachal Pradesh University Pro Vice-Chancellor has been carrying out the responsibilities of Voice Chancellor since 2014.

HPU or Himachal Pradesh University will soon get a new VC or Vice-Chancellor soon. Pro Vice Chancellor, Mr. Rajendra Singh Chouhan has been carrying the responsibilities of Vice Chancellor since 2014. The state government of Himachal Pradesh has given the responsibility of appointing a new Vice-Chancellor to Pro VC. Chancellor HPU and Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Acharya Dev Virat has issued an official notification for the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor. Interested and eligible candidates must submit the application on or before September 14, 2017.

After the deadline ends, the Search Committee of HPU will scrutinize the applications submitted by the eligible candidates and examine the eligibility of applicants. Governor of the state will convene a meeting with Chief Minister of the state and Secretary General of Education on September 18, 2017. The decision regarding the appointment of Vice Chancellor will be finalised during the meeting.

The eligibility norms for Vice Chancellor are based on HPU Act 1970 and UGC Regulation Act 2010. All the applicants must have a minimum experience of ten years to be eligible for the appointment. Similarly, the applicant must have at least five years experience in any department or faculty. Also, the applicants must also have work experience with a Board of Studies, Research Institute, Executive Council, a Board of Management and an Academic Council.

In the first week of September 2017, students of Mizoram University carried out a massive protest by boycotting classes demanding the appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor. The state government took up the issue with Prime Minister of India and sought the appointment of a VC as early as possible.
