HRD Minister Javadekar Inaugurates New Sports Complex at NIT Karnataka

A new sports complex at National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NIT-K) has been set up which has facilities for sports such as badminton, cricket, table tennis, football etc. HRD Minister Javadekar inaugurated the complex on 20th February 2019.

HRD Minister Javadekar Inaugurates New Sports Complex at NIT Karnataka

The Modern Sports Complex at National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NIT-K) was inaugurated on Wednesday, 20th February 2019. The Union Human Resource Development Minister, Shri Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the sports complex at NIT Karnataka in a virtual mode from the Shastri Bhawan in New Delhi. The inauguration took place in the presence of K Balaveera Reddy (Chairman and BoG of NIT Karnataka), K Umamaheshwar Rao (Director NIT-K), V S Ananthnarayana (Deputy Director NIT-K).

The new NIT Karnataka sports complex offers a lot of facilities which can benefit the students in a big way. Provisions for sports such as badminton, table tennis, yoga, squash, cricket etc. have been made available at the complex. Apart from that, the institute's sports complex also has an Olympic size swimming pool. volleyball courts, football ground, hockey field that will help students indulge in activities apart from core academic training. The sports complex is spread over an area of 94,700 square feet and around Rs. 34.07 crores have been invested on it.

While inaugurating the sports complex digitally with the help of advanced technology, Javadekar congratulated and lauded the efforts of the faculty as well as students of the institute for being able to make a mark in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) this year. NIT Karnataka ranks among the top 3 National Institutes of Technology in India.

During his address, Javdekar also highlighted the fact that a Kendriya Vidyalaya will soon be set up at the NITK campus which will become the 3rd central school in the state. He also said that since Indian students have a good understanding of the latest advancements in the field of technology, their demand in foreign countries is also on a rise. Experts in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, 3D Printing etc. are required in large numbers abroad.

The Chairman of the institute, Mr. Reddy while giving his speech, appreciated MHRD's efforts and initiatives such as the launch of Higher Education Funding Agency (HEFA), free-online course medium SWAYAM, Global Initiative for Academic Networks etc. that have given a boost to the quality of education in the country.
