The Union Government is about to bring a lot of changes in the higher education sector with the primary focus on the promotion of innovation.

The Union Government is about to bring a lot of changes in the higher education sector with the primary focus on the promotion of innovation, disclosed Prakash Javadekar, Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister while inaugurating an ASSOCHAM Higher Education Summit in New Delhi.

Javadekar said that innovation is the real sustainable perspective means prosperity to grow. It adds value to services and products and generates wealth, therefore everyone must innovate. Innovation should be promoted right from childhood. Curiosity and inquisitiveness must be promoted at the school level.

The government is planning to revamp the entire teacher education system of the country. The central government plans to promote good and healthy competition in the higher education sector. Therefore, the government will do everything as a challenge. The government is coming with 20 world-class universities in the country, which will be termed as Institutes of National Eminence.

Funds will be allocated for promoting education sector across the state on the basis of the quality of education being taught.

In collaboration with Canara Bank, the central government has established a Higher Education Finance Agency (HEFA). As of now, INR 300 crore has already been allocated through the budget, and another INR 1000 crore will be incurred as a leverage through debt. The amount entire amount will be used for research infrastructure primarily.

Around 200 faculty members visited different universities and colleges in India last year under the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN). The government aims to increase it to 600 this year.

Under the Global Research Interactive Network (GRIN), the government wants to provide scholarship, good guides, good research infrastructure and develop education altogether.
