The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has begun the process for the appointment of Vice Chancellor for Hemavati Nanda Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU). The position of VC at HNGBU has been vacant since December 29, 2017. The central government dismissed the former VC for irregularities in administration. Previous VC, Jawahar Lal Kaul was in office for less than two years.
HRD Ministry has issued an official notification inviting applications from the eligible candidates for the post of VC for Garhwal University. The deadline to submit the applications is one month.

In the advertisement issued for the post of VC, HRD Ministry mentioned that the VC should be a visionary with administrative capabilities, outstanding leadership qualities and teaching and research credentials. The applicants should have at least ten years experience as a professor in any university across the country.
VC of Garhwal University will get a monthly salary of Rs. 2,10,000 and a special allowance of Rs. 5,000.
Vice Chancellor is the supreme post of a varsity. The position of VC should not be vacant for a long period as developmental activities of the university will be stalled and administrative activities will not have proper monitoring.

It is time for the central government to fill the teaching posts in central universities across the country. These premier universities are facing problems due to lack of adequate faculty. The government is planning to give more autonomy to top performing universities and institutes. These institutes are free to hire international faculty.
