HRD Ministry has decided to appoint Dr. Sushma Yadav and Mr. Gopal Reddy as new members of University Grants Commission. They are senior academicians. Sushma Yadav teaches Public Polity and has a broad experience in the field. She won various awards and served as a member of several panels appointed by the government. Gopal Reddy is a senior professor of Political Science at Osmania University, and he also served as a member of various teachers' associations.

One of the senior officials associated with HRD Ministry revealed that the term of a UGC member is three years and as per UGC Act, University Grants Commission must have a Chairman, Vice-Chairman and ten other members. All these members have to be appointed by the Central Government.
According to sources, HRD Ministry has also decided to constitute a three-member committee for selecting a new Chairman for UGC as the term of current Chairman Ved Prakash is going to end soon. On the other hand, senior academicians who have varied experiences in different fields will be appointed as members of UGC.

One of the officials associated with HRD Ministry revealed that the three-member panel would include former VC of Lucknow University and D.P. Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Saurashtra University and Dr. HR Nagendra, Chancellor of S-VYASA.
Currently, Ved Prakash is on leave, and the HRD Ministry has asked M. Jagadeesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University to hold the responsibility in place of Ved Prakash until he returns.
