HTED Maharashtra instructs colleges not to collect full fees: The Higher and Technical Education Department (HTED), in a recent notice to all colleges, ordered that no full fees should be demanded by the college from students who are eligible for the government’s scholarship programme. Colleges can only ask for the remaining amount after deducting the scholarship portion. This order has been made available on the official website of HTED Maharashtra.

This decision comes after the HTED received several complaints from the students that colleges are demanding full fees despite the fact that they are eligible for scholarships during their admission process. This forced students to bear a heavy financial burden, leaving many students and parents in difficulty. With the new government directive, it is expected that such complaints will now be dealt.

The circular emphasises that colleges must only charge net fees after subtracting scholarship amounts when enrolling scholarship recipients. Any infringement of this guideline will lead to consequences for the institutions involved. Additionally, each college is mandated to publish detailed fees for each course both on their website and on notice boards in both Marathi and English. Institutions that fail to adhere to these regulations will be subject to stringent measures under Section 20 of the 2015 Admissions and Fees Act.

The government has instructed all aided and unaided colleges in the state to take this circular seriously and to strictly follow the stipulated rules. Should any institution request additional fees from a student eligible for a scholarship, the affected students have the right to file a complaint. To facilitate this, a helpline number and grievance redressal link will be made available on the official website of the State CET Cell. Upon receiving a complaint, appropriate actions will be undertaken against the relevant institution.
