The Indira Gandhi National Open University, which is commonly known as IGNOU, is the largest open university in the world. It hosted its 32nd convocation ceremony on 3rd April 2019 at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Convention Centre in the IGNOU Campus.
During the ceremony, 2,00,000 diplomas, degrees, and certificates were awarded to the students who successfully cleared their respective programmes. 70 students received gold medals for their meritorious performance throughout the tenure of the course.

The Chief Guest of the event was the Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu. He addressed the students and delivered a speech on the occasion. He lauded the mission of the university, 'reaching the unreached' and 'democratization of education' and said that IGNOU has made it very easy for many learners to acquire knowledge. The institute has made education accessible to students who were otherwise unable to attend an institute of higher learning on a regular basis.
The Vice President stressed on the need for students to keep learning continuously in order to remain competitive in this world that is always changing. He said that learning does not perish after acquiring an educational degree, it is an ongoing process that needs to be upgraded by students on a regular basis. He reminded the students that India was once famous as ‘Vishwaguru’ and scholars from all around the world came to India for learning in reputed centres like Takshashila.

Professor Nageshwar Rao, the Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, highlighted the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) that the university has adopted and said their aim is to reach the unreached and provide students with innovation, flexibility, inclusiveness, quality assurance, and regular updating of knowledge. IGNOU is also in the process of launching several new academic as well as technological initiatives.
The convocation was carried out simultaneously at 53 different centres of IGNOU and the main function was held at its headquarters.
