One of the faculty members of IIM Ahmedabad, Professor Raaj Sah has been awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon by the Government of Japan. The Japanese Government conferred this honour on behalf of the Emperor of Japan. Professor Raaj Sah is Distinguished Fellow at IIM Ahmedabad.
Professor Raaj Sah has been honoured for his magnificent contributions to the analysis of financial and economic policies of Japan. Among the policies that Professor Raaj Sah has engaged with are deficits, public revenues, tax reforms and redistribution. For contemporary Japan, these are some of the central issues, and the award was announced in autumn 2017.
Remembering his long association with IIM Ahmedabad, Professor Raaj Sah remarked on the closeness he had with the premier B-School and said that it is like a gift. He added that it has been his companion in the ongoing journey through various stages and aspects of life.
Professor Raaj Sah was a gold medallist of PGP class of 1973-75. He was from rural Rajasthan and participated with his mentor Professor Ravi Matthai. Both of them have played a vital role in setting up of the Jawaja experiment. The experiment was a precursor of modern-day-grass roots NGOs (Non-Governmental Organisations). He holds a Ph.D. degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Professor Raaj Sah participated in setting up of ‘Vikalpa’, a journal of IIM Ahmedabad. He coined the name ‘Vikalpa’ for the journal and his significant associations with IIM Ahmedabad have continued to evolve richly in different dimensions.
Director-In-Charge of IIM Ahmedabad, Professor Errol D’souza pointed that IIM Ahmedabad is highly delighted to witness Professor Raaj Sah being conferred with this prestigious honour by the Japanese government.
