IIM Calcutta is to start a six-month-long advanced programme in Strategic Management. The programme is aimed at making the concepts and effect of strategic thinking in the Business world clearer to the students.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta is going to introduce a new programme APSM (Advanced Programme in Strategic Management) as an MBA specialization. The programme will be launching in September 2019. The duration of the programme will be for six months. Working professionals who are interested in getting themselves enrolled in the programmes are required to have a work experience of at least 7 years.
The programme in Strategic Management is aimed at enabling students to achieve strategic thinking from inception to final implementation with the help of its innovative curriculum. As per a statement released by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, the course will help students in comprehending the importance of strategic thinking and how it leverages the power of not only individuals but also an institution, firms and markets. It will also explain how strategy helps in improving the efficiency of an organization.

The statement also confirmed that APSM will be delivered both in online mode as well as face-to-face on IIM Calcutta campus. Talking about this new initiative, the Programme Director of APSM, Prof Mritiunjoy Mohanty said that the institute aims at delivering key learnings with the help of this course. The course will help students understand strategic landscapes of industries, institutional variation across nations and industrial interface with regulation and law. He further focused on the need for strategic planning in the management business saying that it makes up the backbone of business and enterprises.

Another Programme Director, Prof. Biswatosh Saha said that the growth trajectory and direction of an industry depends upon its long term vision and strategic thinking helps create that result. He also said that great pressures of competition and global markets along with a number of other factors define the current business contexts of an organisation.
The Advanced Programme in Strategic Management will create more job opportunities in organisations that require skilled employees to handle strategic issues. This will also help students in bettering the future of an organization.
