IIM Calcutta and NIIT-Training to Start 2nd Batch of Advanced Program in Data Sciences

IIM Calcutta will soon start the second batch of Advanced Program in Data Sciences, in collaboration with Training – NIIT’s multi-modal learning platform. To programme has been started to help candidates pursue a lucrative career in Data Science by acquiring a strong foundation in data interpretation.

The duration of Advanced Program in Data Sciences (APDS) is one year that includes sessions to help students learn different tools and techniques used for managing, handling, managing, interpreting and analysing data.

Eligibility Criteria for IIM Calcutta APDS Programme:

• Candidates should have a minimum work experience of 3 years.
• Those who will successfully complete all modules of the course will be awarded a certificate by IIM Calcutta.
• IIM Calcutta will also award alumni status to students who complete this programme.

IIM Calcutta APDS Programme Curriculum:

• The programme will include 275 hours of live online learning sessions and 3 campus visits spanning 10 days at IIM Calcutta.
• Software including XL-Miner, SPSS, SAS Enterprise Miner, R, Arena, @Risk, Apache Spark etc.
• Subjects covered under the course will be data science, econometric methods, data representation and visualization, stochastic processes and stimulation, big data storage and analysis, machine learning, etc.
• Projects will be organized in teams amongst the applicants of the programme in the field of marketing, operations, finance, agriculture, healthcare and construction to be guided by IIM Calcutta faculty.
• The teams will have to present and submit their projects during a 4-day module at IIM Calcutta before the end of the programme.

Mr. Prakash Menon, President of Global Retail Business at NIIT Ltd. said that the first batch of the APDS programme was a great success and the candidates of the batch have been enabling fast and better decisions at their respective organisations. He added that the aim of the programme is to develop a globally competitive workforce in order to take on the various organizational challenges.

Professor of Management Information Systems, IIM Calcutta, Prof Indranil Bose, said that IIM Calcutta believes in creating career opportunities for professionals through cutting-edge programs. Prof Preetam Basu, Assistant Professor of Operations, IIM Calcutta, also talked about the programme and said that there is a need for professionals with data science skills and the APDS programme fulfills that requirement.
