IIM Sirmaur Holds 2nd Convocation: 35 Students Conferred MBA Degrees

IIM Sirmaur, one of the new premier institutes in India celebrated its second convocation on April 13, 2018. The convocation ceremony was held at the interim campus of IIM Sirmaur. Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Jai Ram Thakur was the chief guest of the occasion. Chairman and Managing Director of DCM Shriram Ltd, Mr. Ajay Shriram who is also the Chairperson of IIM Sirmaur’s BoG was also present on the occasion. He delivered the welcome address and conferred MBA degrees to 35 students.

During his welcome address, Mr. Ajay Shriram acknowledged the immense efforts of all the stakeholders to build a world-renowned institution. The permanent campus of IIM Sirmaur will have world-class facilities and state-of-the-art infrastructure. He thanked the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh for his active engagement and support towards the development of the institution.

Delivering the convocation address, Shri Jai Ram Thakur congratulated the graduating students and emphasized the significance of an Institute of National Importance such as IIM Sirmaur for Himachal Pradesh. Despite facing many challenges, IIM Sirmaur is thriving to achieve success in all the aspects, he added.

CM of Himachal Pradesh assured all the necessary support from the government for the development of IIM Sirmaur. The development of permanent campus at DaulaKuan is a matter of priority of the government, he highlighted.

On the other hand, Mr. Jai Ram Thakur urged the graduating students not to forget their educational roots in the district of Sirmaur. Students will have to play a key role in contributing towards the betterment of the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is also one of the major responsibilities of the students to retain strong links to their values and culture, he explained.

Addressing the students, Director of IIM Sirmaur, Professor Neelu Rohmetra highlighted the achievements of the premier institute and progress of the institute over the past one year. She also mentioned that IIM Sirmaur is a people-centric institution where all the members are allowed and encouraged to take ownership of their purpose.

Awards Received by IIM Sirmaur Students: -

• The topper of the MBA batch this year was PadmanavAdhikhari received Chairman’s, Gold Medal.
• Lalatendu Panda was awarded Director’s Gold Medal for securing the second rank in academics.
• Director’s Special Recognition Award was received by Soumyadeep Das for his overall performance.
• The only girl student in the MBA batch, Arushi Singh, also received Director’s Special Recognition Award.

For the first time, IIM Sirmaur awarded MBA degrees to students instead of PGP diplomas. The decision to award MBA degrees was taken as per the provisions of IIM Act 2017. A few IIMs have already awarded MBA degrees to students.
