IIMC to Conduct Kashmir Symposium Instead of JNU

Due the inability of Jawaharlal Nehru University to host the two-day symposium on Kashmir, it will now be conducted by Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC).

JNU won’t be able to host the symposium due to the ongoing admission process in its campus.

The symposium by RSS affiliated NGO Vishwagram will be conducted on July 29 and 30.

Also, JNU Student’s Union had earlier plans of protesting outside JNU against inviting RSS leader Indresh Kumar, now since the symposium won’t be conducted at JNU, the student’s union has also called it off and will helping in admission assistance instead.

According to reports many scholars and thinkers will be present for the symposium. The title for the symposium has been decided as ‘Peace, People & Possibilities’.

Some of the names from the VIP list are:

  • J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti
  • MoS External Affairs V K Singh
  • MoS Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju
  • MoS for PMO Jitendra Singh
  • Deputy Chief Minister of J&K Nirmal Singh

According to Pramod Kumar, JNU Registrar, the University was facing problem in conducting the symposium while the admission process was going on. Also, taking the responsibility of both the admissions and the VIP guests coming for the symposium was a tough job.

  • It is a possibility that alumni of IIMC may protest outside IIMC.

According to an alumni of IIMC, the efforts are being made to stage a protest against inviting of Indresh Kumar. Also, he suggested that any political party or political person should not be invited in any educational institute and specially not to any journalism institute as they teach the students to be unbiased and non judgemental towards political parties.
