Director of IIT Bhubaneswar, Mr. RV Rajakumar revealed that the institute is expected to increase the intake of students from 1,765 to 3,000 within the next four years. At present, IIT Bhubaneswar has 1,101 B.Tech, 256 Ph.D., 142 M.Sc and 266 M.Tech students. In order to accommodate these students, the premier institute of technology is working on Phase – II expansion so that it could initiate the construction process of three school buildings, four hostels and other infrastructure for students, he added.
Mr. RV Rajakumar further pointed out that, IIT Bhubaneswar is the second-generation premier institute of technology, and it is the second largest in terms of student strength after IIT Hyderabad. After the completion of the expansion of Phase – II construction, IIT Bhubaneswar will reach new heights. At present, the expansion works are progressing at the cost of Rs. 850 crore, he indicated.

Secretary of Department of Science and Technology, Mr. Ashutosh Sharma explained that IIT Bhubaneswar had received more than 100 consultancy and sponsored projects. So far, IIT Bhubaneswar filed 30 patents for its unique inventions or innovations. The institute has also opened centres of excellence to conduct research in different areas of engineering, science and technology. In all, the premier institute has been working consistently to make an impact with its research output and quality education, he hailed.
IIT Bhubaneswar celebrated its seventh convocation ceremony on Saturday, September 22, 2018. A total number of 332 students received degrees on this occasion. Naduri Diwakar from Mechanical Engineering branch bagged President of India Gold Medal for his outstanding academic performance.
