IIT Bhubaneswar to Select 40 Class 11 Girls Students for its Science Programme
  • The student training & exposure programme will be launched by IIT Bhubaneswar under ‘Vigyan Jyoti’ programme, funded by DST (Department of Science & Technology).
  • The training programme will begin from June 04, 2018.

With an aim to inspire and encourage female students to pursue higher education, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has planned to select 40 girl students pursuing Class 11 from Odisha. IIT Bhubaneswar will provide training and exposure to these students in science and technology. The student training & exposure programme will be launched under ‘Vigyan Jyoti’ programme, funded by DST (Department of Science & Technology). The training programme for Class 11 girl students will be conducted from June 04 to June 24, 2018.

IIT Bhubaneswar confirmed that the selected students will be provided complete support in terms of travel, boarding and lodging to attend the training programme. These students will be provided accommodation inside the campus of IIT Bhubaneswar so that students can experience the feel of a national premier institute.

The holistic training programme will help the female students to pursue higher education and become self-reliant by leading an independent life. The primary motive of the training programme is to create gender enabling environment and consolidate the ecosystem.

Already, IIT Bhubaneswar has sent letters to all the secondary schools and state colleges to send their students for the training programme. The selection of students for the training programme will be purely based on merit. If there is more competition, IIT Bhubaneswar will conduct a test to select the students. The number of participants to be selected for the training programme might be increased from 40 to 45 if necessary.

As a part of the training programme, prominent faculty members, scientists, administrators and entrepreneurs from different parts of the country will share their experience with students. Similarly, students will be enlightened on the career options available in the field of science & technology and business & administration.

As a part of exposure visit, students will be taken to the planetarium, places of historical interest, research centres and science labs. On the other hand, documentaries on science topics and good movies will be screened to impart knowledge. Biographies of prominent female achievers will be explained to motivate the students.
