IIT Delhi alumni association - IITDAA has adopted over 25 village clusters in Mitraon area of Nazafgarh (West Delhi). This is the part of the Centre’s Village Adoption Programme under Swachchta Initiative (VAPUSI).
The members of the IIT Delhi alumni association confirmed the same on 27th Jan 2019. The members informed that they will work on the overall development of these villages. The IITDAA will first work on the educational facilities in the area by coming up with libraries and setting up collective reading rooms.
IITDAA plans to work into the following three key areas:
- Tree Plantation
- Sewage Disposal
- Waster Segregation

Apart from these areas, the IITDAA members are also planning to set up biogas plants, launching mobile apps for the farmers, drip irrigation, introduction of organic farming in these villages.
The other village clusters adopted by IITDAA include Kair, Mundela, Jaffarpur, Ujwa, Kalan, Isapur, and others.

Sanjeev Sanghi, Dean Alumni Affairs at the IIT Delhi informed that the alumni association is working on several initiatives like these. Apart from this, it has also started a mentoring programme for the existing students. In the mentoring programme, students are introduced to various startups to enhance their skills as per industry trends. It will also give them an insight into the professional world and make them job-ready for the future.
