IIT Goa to Begin M.Tech Courses from July

The Indian Institue of Technology Goa will be providing M.tech degree from the next academic session. The Institue earlier used to give B.Tech courses alone. Now they will be providing M.Tech degrees in the three courses that they have already given to the students, i.e. electrical engineering, computer science & engineering and mechanical engineering.

The director of IIT Goa B K Mishra has stated that there will be 10 seats for each of the M.tech courses. They are presently operating out of the campus of Goa Engineering College Farmaguddi. IIT Goa hasn’t yet received an allotment of land to construct its permanent campus.

Along with the M.Tech courses, IIT Goa will also be introducing another B.Tech course in Mathematics and Computing Programme. The Institute had earlier planned to introduce the course two years ago, however, due to lack of space, they dropped the idea of introducing the new course. Nonetheless, the Indian Institue of Technology Goa will now be able to add the B.Tech course in Mathematics and Computing Programme with a total of 20 seats.

IIT Goa had earlier thought of providing 60 seats in total in all the M.Tech courses provided at the Institute, meanwhile, they had planned to provide 30 seats to the new B.Tech programme. The seats have been reduced keeping in mind the vacancy of the hostel facilities at their present campus. They had increased the capacity of the hostel to 460 last year by investing in new blocks at the GEC campus which cost them 40 crores.
