Through IIT-JEE exams, candidates will be eligible to secure around 3,900 seats for undergraduate programmes and 1,300 postgraduate programmes. All candidates of Indian origin (Indian Citizens), NRIs, and foreign nationals studying abroad will be eligible to seek admission.

The Union Education Ministry under the Direct Admission of Student Abroad (DASA) scheme will allow candidates to seek admission to the top universities. Foreign students will be welcomed to seek admissions to top universities: National Institute of Technology, School of Planning and Architect, National Institute of Information Technology, and other institutions under the Central Government. However, the scheme DASA is not applicable to IITs of India. Further, 15% of the seats will be reserved for the foreign students and NRIs in the universities under DASA.

The Ministry states that this scheme will help the Indian students and educational institutions to cooperate with foreign educational institutions. It motivates foreign students to seek admission to Indian universities as well. Due to this initiative, many universities in India have been marked as eminent. D.K. Sharma, IIT Professor, states that every year thousands of foreign students come to India to seek admissions, but only a few institutes offer and accept the admissions of foreign students. This initiative will help other institutes as well to open up for admissions to foreign students.
