A decision has been taken by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur to not conduct the term-end exam and instead evaluate the students on the basis of their mid-semester examination grades along with their viva voice and assignments. According to an IIT Kharagpur spokesperson, the decision was taken keeping in mind the inability of the students to reach the campus for the end semester examinations owing to the lockdown.
The spokesperson also opened up about the parameters that will be taken into account to evaluate the students in addition to how the institute will carry out grading of the students and supplementary examination.
A circular will be issued by IIT-K comprising of the final outcome of the Senate meeting which was held on the 27th of May.
Some senior faculty members along with a students representative were part of the Senate.
The spokesperson added that the Institute, on the basis of the student’s council feedback and Senate meeting discussions, arrived at a decision to not conduct the end semester examinations citing the impossibility of the students to travel to the campus before June.
As of now, out of the total 13,000 students of IIT Kharagpur (which includes PhD scholars also), only 5,000 are currently present at the campus who could not go home before the lockdown began.
Ninaad Lohakare, the student representative in the Senate said they were receiving loads of queries regarding the current end semester examinations but the Institution has decided to not conduct the current end semester examinations.
