An app that was developed by the students of Indian institute of Technology, Kharagpur entered into the finals of one of the B-Plan competition in the world with the winning prize of $1.5 million. The specialty of the app is that is manages everything inside a smart home. The team from IIT Kharagpur is the only team from South Asia that has reached finals. Teams from China and Russia also entered finals along with Indian team.
The team of students from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur competed with 42 teams to reach finals. The Indian team from IIT-Kgp has competed with various reputed institutes like Imperial, Stanford, MIT and Harvard.
About Alive Home App: -
The team has worked on Smart Switch Modules that are smart and easy to install through three detachable components. The specialty of these components is that they will replace the regular and mundane switchboards. The app has been named as Alive Home, a Smartphone app. It is also a web application that controls all the appliances in a house. Through this app, the switchboard and app are connected to each other by using secure cloud servers. The users can control all the automated appliances in the home through this app.

The app is very useful and flexible as it brings all the home appliances at fingertips as well as gives a real-time data on the amount of energy that is consumed by various automated appliances in the house. The app also notifies the users to switch off the appliance. The app also saves electricity and regulates energy consumption.
