IIT Madras Alumni Assure $1.5 Million to Foster Innovation

  • The reunion programme of IIT Madras alumni took place on December 28, 2017, and alumni from different batches gathered at the institute.
  • The alumni will also ensure that the institute gets a huge fund to continue innovation and ideation.
IIT Madras Alumni Assure $1.5 Million to Foster Innovation

As a part of the reunion, the 1992 batch of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras gathered on the campus to meet their classmates and remember the past memories on the campus. The reunion programme of IIT Madras alumni took place on December 28, 2017. Apart from 1992 batch, hundreds of students from 1977, 1982, 1997, 1972, 1964-66 and 2007 batches gathered on the campus to participate in reunion celebrations and alumni meet.

To mark the silver jubilee reunion, the 1992 batch of IIT Madras pledged to raise over $1.5 million to support CFI (Centre for Innovation) and Nirmaan (pre-incubation cell) at IIT Madras. The motive of 1992 batch is to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among the students of IIT Madras.

The alumni meet witnessed the participation of old students from various parts of the globe. The alumni meet at IIT Madras indicates the strength and unity of its Alma matter and alumni network of the institute.

Senior Director of Qualcomm, Mr. Arjit Prasad, who was also the students of 1992 batch at IIT Madras, revealed that he was highly surprised by the entrepreneurship spirit prevalent on the campus. The Centre for Innovation at IIT Madras has been playing a dominant role in promoting innovation. The magnificent performance of CFI inspired the alumni to raise $1.5 million for fostering innovation. It is time to show their gratitude to the premier institute, he expressed.

Chief Executive Officer of IIT Madras Alumni Charitable Trust, Mr. Subramanian revealed that the former students of institute planned to start a 500-crore endowment by 2020. The institute will present the Distinguished Alumni Awards for 12 alumni in April 2018, he added.
