IIT Madras has launched an online diploma and B.Sc programme in data science and programming. The course will be offered online while the assessment of the programme including the exam will be done in offline mode.
IIT Madras Director, Bhaskar Ramamurthi said that the institute aims to reach maximum students by offering this course. He further said that the course comes up with multiple entries and exit points and students can get a certificate, diploma or a degree after the successful competition of course.
Eligibility for IIT Madras Online Diploma and B.Sc Data Science Course
Any student who has passed Class 12th can apply for an Online Diploma and B.Sc in Data Science course. There is no age limit to apply for the course.
However, a 12th passed student will first have to pursue a foundation course. Those who have a college degree can directly enrol in a diploma level course.
A student who completes the foundation-level course will be awarded a certificate and they can get a diploma degree after a year. A degree will be awarded to those students who will complete a three years course covered in six semesters.
IIT Madras Online Diploma and B.Sc Data Science Curriculum
The course curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the industry. In the first year of the course (foundation), students will learn the basics of data science and programming. In the diploma years, students will learn skill courses and the application of course. In the final year, students will gain advanced specialisation skills.
How to enrol for IIT Madras Online Diploma and B.Sc Data Science Course?
Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria mail have to first fill in the form for the qualifier exam. The registration fee for the qualifier exam is Rs 3,000.
Those who will be successfully enrolled for the course will get access to video lectures covered by faculty. It will be a four weeks course and comprise weekly assignments and in-person invigilated exams.
Students can access the course content of fours subjects- mathematics English, statistics, and computational thinking
An offline test will be conducted after the competition of four weeks course. Those who will clear the test with at least 50% marks will be enrolled in the foundational program.
