The weeklong 4th International Convention SPIC MACAY concluded with a gamut of events and concerts at IIT Guwahati. Nearly 1,300 students and 222 artists participated in this international convention wherein people came from all over India and many other countries including Pakistan to witness the event.
Enthralling performances by renowned artists like L Subramanium, N Ravikaran, Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande and Ustan Wasifuddin Dagar mesmerised the crowd. Governor of Assam and Nagaland Padmanabh Balakrishna was the main guests at the event. SPIC MACAY (The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) , every year through international conventions attempts to expose the young generation of students to the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India. This year’s convention at IIT started with a 4 a.m yoga which was led by Kudiyattam and Sattriya gurus Margi Madhu and Ghanakanta Bora respectively, Ustad Wasiffuddin dagar, Inkar Dadkar, PL Dhar and experts from Brahmakumaris and Bihar School of Yoga.
The convention was inaugurated on May 9 by Acharya. Borgeet and Bihu were the itineraries of the welcome concerts. In addition, workshops and intensive workshops were compulsory for every participant to learn under a guru of their choice.
The seven states of North-east were represented with the best classical and folk ranges. Gurus Thanil Singh and Ghanakanta Bora along with other artists performed and entertained the audience. The cinema classic module was represented by Akira Kurusava’s films.
Overall, the programme was a huge success.
