Postgraduate students of universities in Kerala will now be able to go for sandwich courses in order to get credits for different subjects from Japan’s Osaka University. Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan took the decision at a meeting in Japan. He was on an official visit to Japan with the Executive Vice-President for Osaka University’s Global Engagement and Student Support Genta Kawahara.
The meeting was held at Osaka University’s Suita campus. CM Vijayan said in a Facebook post that academic partnership in different sectors is being taken into consideration by the university. The sandwich courses will help in the transfer of credits which will be the opening step in the direction. He was quoted as saying the same in official release released by the Chief Minister’s Office.
Genta Kawahara also recommended collaboration in research in bio-plastic, polymer nanocomposites, a natural polymer, and bio-composites. He also brought up joint projects in marine science and ship technology.
The Chief Minister endeavored the creation of a center of excellence between Mahatma Gandhi University and Osaka University. Development studies, social science, migration and economics studies are some of the topics introduced for the collaboration.
Osaka University has the facility for around 1,44,000 students to study in 11 graduate and 16 undergraduate schools.

Sandwich course denotes the courses that include a specific duration of the course reserved for studies abroad or industrial exposure which will benefit the state's students extensively.
