JEE Main 2017 Cutoff Expected to be around 105: Experts

According to exam experts, the cutoff for the JEE Main 2017 will be close to 105. One of the major engineering entrance exam, JEE Main 2017 was considered to be of moderate difficulty. However, students and experts reported that the mathematics section of the exam was a bit tricky.

The exam was conducted on April 2, 2017. JEE exam head of TIME Hyderabad, Venkat Ramana, said that the physics and chemistry sections of the exam were relatively simpler as compared to the previous years. He further explained that moderate difficulty level of the exam will result in a slightly higher cutoff.

Another reason behind a higher cutoff in 2017 is the increase in the number of applicants who appeared for the exam. The number of candidates who applied for the exam increased in 2017 by 20,000.

Another prominent exam training centre, the Aakash Institute, also predicted that the cutoff of JEE Main 2017 will cross 100 and will be close to 105.

Declaring a higher cutoff will help in selecting the right number of candidates, Ramana added. He also said that the cutoff for reserved category students will remain similar to last year.

In 2016, JEE main cutoff stood at 100 for general category students. However, for OBC, SC and ST category students, the cutoff was 70, 52 and 48 respectively.

The cut in 2015 was higher for general students and was registered at 105. The cutoff for reserved candidates was more or less the same i.e. 70 (OBC), 50 (SC) and 44 (ST).
