JNU VC Stresses on Higher Investment in Defence Research

  • The speakers stressed on sufficient investment in defence for strengthening India’s security policy.
JNU VC Stresses on Higher Investment in Defence Research

Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Mr. Jagadeesh Kumar pointed that a higher investment is essential for carrying out research in defence. With an objective to address the security concerns of India, there is a need to develop indigenous technologies that will play a significant role in strengthening the security policy which will make it difficult for rival countries to neutralise India’s security cover, he added. Kumar was addressing a one-day seminar on ‘Comprehensive View on India’s National Security’.

J Singh, Former Army Chief General (retired), Kanwal Sibal, former Foreign Secretary and Shekar Dutt, former Defence Secretary were also among the dignitaries who attended the seminar. Centre for Media Studies and Global Counter-Terrorism Council of JNU organised the seminar.

According to Singh, India’s army, diplomacy and other bureaucracy need a policy of unification to deal with contemporary international security and relations. A detailed study of India’s Geography is also important to safeguard Indian borders, he added.

According to Mr. Sibal Kanwal, Indian army, diplomacy and present leadership have been highly successful in the Doklam crisis with China.

Almost all the speakers stressed on sufficient investment in defence for strengthening India’s security policy. The latest technology in defence sector will help the country to track the conspiracies of rival countries in an effective manner.

Jawaharlal Nehru University ranked well in NIRF Rankings 2017. It took the second rank at all India level.
