JNU’s Political Scientist Becomes Goa University VC

Dr. Varun Sahni of JNU has been appointed as the new Goa University Vice-Chancellor. The update was sent from the chancellor’s office on July 20 the office is currently held by Mridula Sinha.

Dr. Sahni is a political scientist who is quite popular on a global level. He is currently working as Jawaharlal Nehru University’s professor and chairperson for the Centre for International Politics, Organization and Disarmament (CIPOD).

Dr. Sinha will join office from October as the current vice-chancellor of Goa University, Dr. Satish Shetye’s term will be over in October 2016.

Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar who heads the committee had recommended the names of potential candidates for the post of Goa University’s Vice-Chancellor. Dr. Sahni turned out to be one of the potential candidates as he previously also served as Reader in Latin American Politics at the University.

He has also served as the vice-chancellor of the University of Jammu from December 2008 to January 2012. He was the 10th VC of the university. Dr. Sinha has been part of more than 220 academic conferences of which 90 were organized overseas. He has presented papers, organized as well as played the role of discussant in these conferences.
