Due to the conversion of Diploma seats, the number of medical seats in Karnataka has increased and the number has gone up to 469. Around 469 seats in 23 colleges, and155 courses in Karnataka were converted as a medical seat. In the country, a total of 2,148 seats were converted as medical seats. But there, are still 99 seats from 9 colleges have still not been approved as they do not meet the eligibility criteria.
The Medical Council of India with approval of the Central Government has revised the Higher course of Study and increased the admission capacity of any course (Including PG courses). In the new regulation, the medical institutes or universities need to change their recognized diploma seats into post-graduate seats so that the seats available of PG courses are equal.
Applications from 141 medical colleges for the conversion of 2697 medical seats of 843 courses were received by the Ministry of Health and Family. The BoG and MCI considered all the applications. The Medical Council of India decided to convert post-graduation diploma seats in 115 Colleges into PG degree seats.
