Kashmir School Education Department to Assign 2,500 Tabs to Students

With a nation-wide lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kashmir School Education Department has announced that they will be distributing 2,500 tablets among students of class 10 and 12 so that they can access digital study material for an unobstructed academic year.

In a bid to promote better education standards and accessibility to quality education in the state, especially during the current lockdown situation. During a meeting which was chaired Asgar Samoon, the Principal Secretary of the Department of School Education, it had been decided that a total of 2,500 tabs will be distributed among the students of class 10 and 12.

Soon after the meeting had concluded, Samoon had tweeted the decisions that had been taken. In order to effectively tackle the current situation, it has been decided that all relevant content shall be uploaded on the department’s official website, which can be accessed by teachers and students alike.

Samoon further added that while educational material can be digitised, the issue of the students being able to access the crept up. In other words, to ensure that the students are able to access the material, tabs shall be distributed among them.

It had also been decided that the department will post in-charge lectures and conversion of RReTs as grade III teachers were also resolved during the meeting with the DSEK. Among other decisions, Samoon added that the new smart rooms shall be set up in government schools along with providing free uniforms to over 8.5 lakh students in the state.

The Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) stated that the students need access to the latest and updated technology in order to access the digital content that has been uploaded for their education. Moreover, in order to make the students accustomed to the modern techniques of education and teaching, government schools will also be equipped with smart classrooms.

In view of the current situation with COVID-19, the Department has recorded various lectures along with the study material for the students to access. The DSEK further stated that the DD Kashmir Channel has been airing lectures based on the syllabus for an hour each day.

Commenting on the accessibility of the content, DSEK Muhammad Younis Malik has stated that over 6,000 students have already downloaded the study material uploaded on the website. This massive participation from the students was witnessed merely three days after the material had been uploaded under the Aawo Padhein Initiative.

The Aawo Padhein initiative is a centralised archive system of videos and voice-PPTs for Units I and II, complete with proper indexing and sequences. As per sources, the official website of the DSEK, i.e. dsek.nic.in. Further reports on the decisions state that the department will begin with 2,500 tabs initially to class 10 and 12 students and distribute more among others subsequently.
