Lucknow University will restart its Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) course after a gap of three years. The course was suspended after National Council for Teachers' Education (NCTE) de-recognised it following shortcomings.
Though the NCTE had lifted the ban on admissions to BPEd in LU for the 2015 session, the university declared the year as zero session. The reason being incomplete admissions and university's failure to prepare syllabus in accordance with the new two-year module.
The admission process for BPEd began in the first week of August 2015 and 300 candidates applied. NCTE had first directed LU to admit students only from academic session 2016-17 but after the university objected, NCTE granted them permission to admit students in 2015-16.
The course will have a total of 100 seats. According to LU's physical education department coordinator Neeraj Jain, the syllabus is prepared and approved by respective bodies, including the academic council and executive council. The course will begin from the 2016 academic session.
