The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) will be commencing a Certificate Programme in Drug Abuse and Alcohol Counselling from 23rd March 2019. The duration of this course is six months. The course will be run by the Centre for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances that was established recently. In order to get admission in this course, the candidate must have at least a Bachelor Degree from any discipline.
The goals of MAHE Certificate Programme in Drug Abuse and Alcohol Counsellingare -
- To familiarize the students with a wide range of treatment services available for drug rehabilitation
- To understand the social, psychological and physical effects of psychotropic drugs and narcotics on the consumer and society
- To procure knowledge and basic skills to tackle drug use and alcohol disorder

The head of the Centre for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, Dr G Shreekumar Menon explained that the course would facilitate the development of drug abuse counselling accomplishments that are related to the positive outcomes of treatment. He added that the course will give a deeper understanding of the disorder that is caused by the consumption of psychotropic substances.
