MAHE Signs MoU with UNSW Sydney for Educational Initiatives

The University of New South Wales, Sydney signs an MoU with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education for strengthening academic and educational exchange, and for research collaborations. 

MoU between MAHE and UNSW Sydney

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) has entered a partnership with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) for enhancing academic and educational exchange and collaborating for research purposes.

The pro-vice Chancellor International at UNSW, Laurie Pearcey and Dr H Vinod Bhat, VC of MAHE signed the agreement on August 2 in Manipal for large-scale two-way mobility of students. A new seed funding scheme was also announced for capacity building in India’s higher education system basis joint research. The amount of seed funding up to 2025 committed by both institutes is AUD $5M. This amount includes delivering tangible outcomes and ensuring the partnership’s success. The 2019 applications for seed funding open on August 12. The first year of seed funding will have 10 awards priced at Rs.$20,000 each.

Pearcey termed it as a ‘significant milestone in the India story’ and a ‘landmark partnership’ which can contribute towards delivering world-class degrees. It will also open up opportunities for students who are looking at getting a global perspective. As per the partnership, exchange programs for both students and academic staff members are there, and this partnership will also pave the way for dual degrees for undergraduate and postgraduate students in various courses.

The courses in question are the combined UG and graduate degrees and short-term study abroad courses. Presently, the engineering department of UNSW and MAHE, through its International Centre for Applied Sciences has an articulation programme in which MAHE students who are eligible can begin their course at UNSW in the first term of the 3rd year of study in the Bachelor of Science or Engineering program.

The VC of MAHE, Dr Bhat stated that this new partnership between the two institutes can help change lives through education and research, and will also prepare students to face challenges in the future, and this will also have a positive impact on Australia-India relations. Academic staff exchange is also a part of this partnership.
