Should candidates prioritize virtual vacancies over clear vacancies during choice filling?
Candidates should fill their choices based purely on their preference of college and branch, regardless of whether the seat is "clear" or "virtual." Top clinical specialties such as MD General Medicine, MD Radio-Diagnosis, and MS General Surgery have the highest concentration of virtual vacancies. This is because candidates currently holding these seats in peripheral or newer colleges often attempt to upgrade to established premier institutes.

The seat matrix shows a notable increase in MD (Pathology) seats in several government institutions. For instance, Government Medical College, Vizianagaram has added new seats in this specialty. Pathology often sees a surge in interest during Round 3 from candidates who want to secure a seat in a government college for a non-clinical/diagnostic branch. The addition of these seats helps stabilize the cutoffs for diagnostic specialties across the All India Quota.
06 30 PM IST - 29 Jan'26
Are there any new MD (Anaesthesiology) seats added in the Bihar region for this round?
Yes, Vardhman Institute of Medical Sciences, Pawapuri (Nalanda) has added new seats in MD (Anaesthesiology). This is a critical update for candidates from Bihar or those participating in the All India Quota (AIQ) who are looking for clinical support branches. Since these seats are newly sanctioned, the competition for them might be slightly lower than for seats that have been available since Round 1, making them a strategic choice for your preference list.
05 30 PM IST - 29 Jan'26
Which medical college in Andhra Pradesh has introduced the most significant number of new seats for Round 3?
According to the revised seat matrix, Government Medical College, Machilipatnam has introduced several new seats across multiple specialties. Notable additions include seats in MD (General Medicine), MS (General Surgery), and MD (Paediatrics). MCC NEET PG Counselling 2025 Round 3: Which clinical branches have seen the most significant seat increases in the 2025 matrix?
Based on the revised seat matrix, there is a notable increase in seats for Anaesthesiology, Pathology, and Preventive & Social Medicine (PSM) across government colleges in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, and Telangana. Clinical branches like Obstetrics & Gynaecology also saw additions in rural-upliftment hospitals. This trend suggests that while top-tier clinical seats remain competitive, the availability of specialized diagnostic and supportive clinical roles has widened, offering a broader range of career paths for aspirants who prioritize securing a government MD/MS seat over a specific city.
03 30 PM IST - 29 Jan'26
MCC NEET PG Round 3 Counselling 2025: What are the specific rules for candidates seeking seat upgradation in Round 3?
Candidates who joined a seat in Round 2 and opted for "willingness to upgrade" are eligible for Round 3. If an upgraded seat is allotted, the candidate's previous seat is automatically cancelled and offered to another student. The candidate must then collect their original documents from the previous college and report to the new one. However, if no upgrade occurs, the candidate retains their Round 2 seat. It is important to note that if a seat is upgraded in Round 3, the candidate must join it; they cannot choose to go back to their previous seat.
03 00 PM IST - 29 Jan'26
NEET PG Round 3 Counselling 2025: How does the choice-locking process on January 30 work for Round 3?
The choice-locking facility is a security step activated on January 30, 2026, typically after 3:00 PM. It allows candidates to freeze their submitted preferences. If a candidate forgets to manually lock their choices, the system will auto-lock whatever was saved in the portal at the time of the deadline. However, manual locking is highly recommended to ensure the sequence is exactly as intended. Once locked, no further changes can be made, and this specific list will determine the seat allotment result for the entirety of Round 3.
02 30 PM IST - 29 Jan'26
What is the significance of the January 29 deadline for choice filling?
The deadline of January 29, 2026, at 11:59 PM is the final cutoff for all preference submissions. This is the last window for candidates to strategically re-order their choices based on the newly added seats in the seat matrix. Since Round 3 is the penultimate phase of organized counselling, failing to submit choices by tonight means the candidate will not be considered for allotment in this round. For those seeking upgradation, this is the last chance to list higher-priority colleges before the much more restrictive Stray Vacancy Round begins.
02 00 PM IST - 29 Jan'26
NEET PG Round 3 Counselling 2025: How does the inclusion of new seats in Round 3 affect the overall seat matrix?
The addition of seats in recently established institutions, such as Government Medical College, Machilipatnam and GMC, Vizianagaram, provides a significant advantage to candidates who missed out in earlier rounds. By introducing fresh vacancies in high-demand clinical branches like General Medicine, Paediatrics, and Orthopaedics, the MCC has effectively lowered the competition pressure for existing seats. This expansion allows for a "trickle-down" effect where candidates with middle-range ranks now have a realistic shot at clinical specialties in government institutes that were previously considered out of reach during Round 2.
