At a time when Government is siphoning off thousands of crores on higher education, not a single Indian University and Institution figured in the top 300 lists of global ranking released by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) CWUR publishes global university ranking as per the quality of education, training of students, quality of faculty, number of publications, influence, citations, and patents. “In addition to providing consultation for governments and universities, the Center for World University Rankings aims to provide the most comprehensive university rankings available, which are trusted by students, academics, university administrators, and government officials from around the world,” said a press release of CWUR. Harvard University with 100 score, Standford University with 99.09 and Massachusetts Institute of Technology USA with 98.69 occupied top 3 slots respectively. University of Cambridge and University of Oxford ranked 4th and 5th positions respectively. Only 2 universities from Asia ranked in the top 20 Universities of the world. The University of Tokyo ranked 13th rank and Kyoto University ranked 16th respectively. The irony is that several countries such smaller than India in terms of area and size have ranked much better and came to top 200 ranking. For example, Weizmann Institute of Science of Israel ranked 38. National Taiwan University Ranking of Taiwan ranked 65. On the law ranking of the Indian Universities Gautam Biswas, director of Indian Institutes Technology (IIT) Guwahati said, “It is difficult to comment on the ranking of these organizations as they have different parameters to rank the Universities and Institutions that may not suit to us.” The list ranked overall 1000 Universities and Institutions across the world. Sixteen Universities and Institutions from India have been listed in 1000 institutions and universities of the world. With IIT Delhi ranked 341, DU ranked 379, Indian Institutes of Science ranked 448, Punjab University ranked 491, IIT Madras ranked 596, AIIMS ranked 851 and University of Hyderabad ranked 925. firstname.lastname@example.org
