BA Prajapati, present vice chancellor of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University.
The announcement came on Tuesday, 21 December, 2016. Prior to this, he has also served as the in-charge Vice-Chancellor of the North Gujarat University.

It is a known fact that Prajapati faced several accusations for corruption while he served at the South Gujarat University. Most of these allegations were made by the members of Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and even his appointment as the VC of Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University has been strongly opposed by them.
Before his appointment, around 150 professors and several members of Prajapati community from Patan area made a representation before the Gujarat government leading to Prajapati's appointment.
Patan based Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University is a public university in Gujarat. Four districts of Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Patan and Banaskantha come under its Jurisdiction. It is an NACC 'A' accredited university of the state. After the bifurcation of Gujarat University, the North Gujarat University was made. There are 42 colleges under the university scattered in three districts. The University had its humble beginning operating in two hostel buildings. Later the state government donated around 185 acres of land to the University

Veer Narmad South Gujarat University located at Surat is a public university. The University was previously knowns as the South Gujarat University and it 2004 the University was renamed in honour of the Narmad - famous scholar and Gujarati poet. The University has around 282 colleges affiliated to it
