Online Admissions Dropped for Karnataka State Open University (KSOU)

Karnataka has decided to drop the online admission process for the 17 in-house courses at the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) for the academic year 2018-19 and instead, will opt for campus enrollment process. This decision was taken following USC fixing October 1, 2018 as the last date for applications to the in-house courses.

KSOU had secured the UGC recognition for a period of five years and with UGC announcing October 1 as the deadline, but with the prospectus and the application form for the admission process not yet printed, KSOU found itself in a soup and hence decided to go for campus enrollment rather than online admissions.

The Vice-Chancellor of KSOU D. Shivalinagaiah told reporters that the admissions will commence from the first week of September and all the necessary details will be uploaded on the official website of KSOU. He continued by saying that all the eligible students will get admission irrespective of their age, score attained in the qualifying examination.

Unlike before, the candidates who want to opt for Postgraduate programmes should have a Bachelors degree and the candidates applying for Undergraduate programmes should have appeared for the equivalent examinations.

D. Shivalinagaiah also stated that over 4400 colleges were forced to shut down when KSOU decided to untie all the collaborations with other institutes in the state. He continued by saying that due to the de-recognition, the institute faced around a loss of ₹30 crores every year.
