Osmania University Inaugurates a New Centre for Digital Education

The digital education world welcomed its newest member Osmania University on 30 December 2019 who launched the Centre for Digital Education Technology, also known as CDET, under the Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) 2.0. Professor S. Ramachandram, former OU Vice-Chancellor and Managing Director of OU Idea Labs Foundation inaugurated the CDET which, he believes, will mark a new beginning in the teaching-learning process followed at the University. The centre has been set up keeping in mind the rapidly evolving educational landscape, opined Prof Ramachandram.

The other notable dignitary to grace this occasion was Commissioner of Collegiate Education Navin Mittal who came up with a suggestion of creating Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) to begin with non-core papers to streamline processes internally and develop expertise which will be then followed by UGC-mandated courses.

With the help of CDET, the University administration wants to encourage the students to absorb knowledge via the digital medium while at the same time promoting digital content use among the students. In the coming years, the Centre will aim at fulfilling its other objective of imparting education on knowledge and skill-based courses to the students via digital technologies. The director of the Centre for Digital Education Professor K. Stevenson said that once the technology is up and running, it will start web-hosting and web-casting video lectures on various subjects.

Among other dignitaries who stood a witness to this momentous occasion was OSD to VC Professor T Krishna Rao, Registrar Prof. Ch. Gopal Reddy, Osmania University Controller of Examinations and RUSA 2.0 Nodal Officer Prof. Sriram Venkatesh and some senior faculty members.
