Outstation Students in a Fix Regarding Subjects and Payments at DU Admissions 2017

Delhi University (DU) is in the midst of its admission procedure after the announcement of the first round of seat allotment. Students coming from across India to secure seats and faced major problems due to confusion regarding subjects, fee payment and other admission related procedures.

Many outstation students were hurled inside the conference centre at DU to get their issues resolved. Some were satisfied by the counselling, whereas, others left in a distress as they were denied seats in the prestigious DU colleges.

Following were some of the issues faced during the DU Admission Process:

Glitches in Payment System:

Tamil Nadu-based Prashant G had hardly convinced the authorities to accept his provisional pass certificate as the Class 12 mark sheet was not issued to him by the board when he realised that he was not able to make payment for his admission fees.

Even though his father was ready to make the payment through credit card, the authorities told Prashant that the fee payment can only be done online. When he informed the authorities about the technical issue, he was told that the server was down and that they were unable to process the payments.

Syllabus and Subject Issues:

Siddharth Sunil Panicker from Kerala passed hi Claas 12 from the state board and added that DU refused to recognise his Mathematics subject as it was written as ‘Mathematics-Com’ – to specify commerce students – in the mark sheets. He added that even though the Math syllabus is same for science and commerce students, the DU officials told him that he was not eligible for the BA (Hons) in Economics programme.

Another student from Karnataka faced the same problem as the state board writes ‘Basic Maths’ in the mark sheet to denote marks scored in Mathematics. However, DU later recognised the subject but told the student that she will be subjected to a percentage cut in her best of four percent.

Certification Issues:

A Kerala-based OBC candidate, Sidra Ali, couldn’t get through with the admission procedure as her OBC certificate comprised both religion and caste but DU officials mentioned that the certificate should comprise only the caste. Her category certificate was not accepted by the university.
