Panjab University has been facing a severe financial crisis for the past one year. Now, the varsity has appealed to all the former students to help their alma mater and help the varsity come out of the financial crisis. A number of students have responded to the varsity’s appeal and have decided to help the varsity. According to sources, at least three students have contacted the varsity and offered help. The administration of Panjab University is hoping for help particularly from the illustrious alumni.
Dr. Keval Krishan Tiwari, one of the former students of Panjab University who settled in the United States contacted the varsity through e-mail and offered to finance the education of at least five students of a particular department. He offered Rs. 10 lakh for five students who are pursuing an honours degree in Chemistry.

Dr. Baninder Rahi, another former student who is working as an associate professor in a Delhi-based institution also extended her support. Dr. Baninder along with her husband will launch a social media campaign seeking contributions from the alumni of the varsity.
Another former student who did his Chemical Engineering from the varsity also assured help. He was deeply saddened with the financial crisis of the varsity and has also requested other alumni members of the varsity to extend their support.
With an objective to get contributions, the varsity is planning to write to more 6,000 registered alumni. The move taken by the varsity clearly indicates the financial position of the varsity. The minimal funds that were released by HRD Ministry were not sufficient to develop the varsity.

The varsity has launched a full-fledged campaign named ‘Guru Dakshina Campaign’. The alumni will be called to help at least five students in any department and also contribute towards research activities. The alumni can also fund the innovative plans of the varsity as well as contribute towards the development of infrastructure facilities.
