Patna College Convocation Ceremony

In a moment of inexpressible joy for the undergraduate students, Patna College has conducted its first-ever decentralised convocation ceremony after 50 years of wait. Prior to this, Patna University used to conduct a centralised convocation ceremony for PG and PhD students only.

After a 5-decade-long wait, the students who graduated from the different undergraduate programmes from Patna College, have been able to attend their convocation ceremony on 19th August 2019. Patna College, which is one of the oldest colleges in Eastern India, had been able to present a total of 171 degrees to the students belonging to the academic session of 2015-18. As per official statement, the toppers in various categories will be awarded the Gold Medals on the Foundation Day which is expected to be held on 1st October 2019.

The convocation ceremony, which had been decentralized, was conducted in the Wheeler Senate Hall on Monday. The officials from Patna University announced that the efforts put in by the Vice-Chancellor of the varsity allowed the college to conduct its first decentralized convocation ceremony after 50 long years. During the 50 years, the varsity conducted centralised convocation ceremony, that had been conducted only for the students who graduated in postgraduate as well as Ph.D. programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor of Patna University took the opportunity to address the graduating students and informed that it is after the graduation the life of an individual starts. He urged them to put in the efforts to bring a change in their lives and uphold not only their names but the names of the varsity along the way.

As per sources, for the convocation ceremony, the students had been asked to wear complete Indian Attires. The boys wore full Kurta Pajama, while the female students wore a white sari or white salwar suit. As a graduating gesture, all the students were graced with a yellow turban.

Talking to media, many students expressed their gratitude and happiness towards the first convocation ceremony that had been conducted after 50 years. Students along with their parents, especially alumni who had brought their children to the same college where they were taught for higher education, expressed their joy to see their child receive their degrees at the same platform where they had received their degrees.
