Pearl Academy Hosts Second Edition of Design Carnival in Jaipur

Second edition of the Design Carnival was held in Jaipur by the Pearl Academy – one of the leading fashion institutes of India. The carnival was conducted to showcase some of the innovative ideas and creative expressions by bringing together the design, art and cultural communities.

The two-day long carnival turned out to be an interactive platform for many intellects, aspiring designers and budding talents of the country. Individuals from various domains of the fashion industry shared their ideas and creativity during the event.

Various workshops were conducted including ‘Make and Learn Toys’, ‘Ply Split Braiding’ and ‘Lime Jaali’ along with the demonstration of cultural art such as Tangalia, Meenakari, Patwa, Blacksmithy and Jaipur Rugs.

Some of the young designers of the Pearl Academy also displayed their projects at the event. One of the concepts that got the limelight was about creating outreach centres for young adults suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorder. The project highlighted ways to help such individuals by bringing them into the mainstream society.

The jewellery projects presented by students impressed a lot of professionals and got picked up by professional sponsors such as Amrapali, PC Jewellers Bluestone and Voylla.

The Academy also conducted two panel discussions that were called ‘The Conversation’. The event was attended by industry experts and professionals who shared their knowledge regarding design subjects.

The first panel was named ‘Design Fusion or Confusion’. It was moderated by Tapan Chakravarty, Architect & Academician and led by Architect Prof. Kiran Mahajani; Kavita Chaudhary, Designer and Shamini Shanker, Writer.

‘Fashion Design & Entrepreneurship’ was the theme of the second panel discussion that was attended by Renowned Fashion Designer Manish Malhotra as well as Design Entrepreneurs and Alumni of Pearl Academy - Namita Bhandari and Chirag Nainani.

Manish Malhotra also inaugurated Pearl Academy’s incubation centre – ‘Canvass’. The centre has been started to boost entrepreneurship among students and mentor them to develop creative ideas into a potential business.

Appraising the gathering at the Carnival, Manish Malhotra said that he was amazed to see the creativity and talent that the carnival attracted from all over the country. He further added that the exhibitions at the carnival were thought-provoking. He also congratulated Pearl Academy for the success of starting the incubation centre that will give an edge to budding fashion entrepreneurs.

Prof. Nandita Abraham, CEO, Pearl Academy, also spoke on the occasion and expressed her joy on seeing such an active participation from the fashion and design industry. She added that exchanging of creative ideas is the best way to help the budding designers and encourage growth in the industry.
