HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar has ordered Central Board of Secondary Education to continue conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2018 in 20 Indian regional languages as earlier.
CBSE decided to remove 17 languages from the list of options for CTET but the HRD Minister rejected the decisions and said that the exam will be conducted in all the 20 languages as was being done earlier.

The CTET examination will be conducted in Hindi, English, Bangla, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Assamese, Garo, Mizo, Malayalam, Manipuri, Mizo, Telugu, Urdu, Nepali, Oriya, Tamil and Tibetan.

The decision to drop Tamil and other 16 Indian regional languages from the CTET exam caused a lot of opposition. According to HRD Ministry, students of CBSE whose mother tongue is Tamil would have been at a disadvantage without teachers who speak the same language.
CBSE conducts the CTET exam every year. Candidates who wish to teach classes 1st to 8th standard at schools run by central government appear in the CTET entrance exam. The CTET exam pattern comprises of two papers namely, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is held for candidates who wish to teach classes 1st to 5th whereas CTET Paper 2 is conducted for high school teachers. CBSE will declare the CTET exam in the month of September in the online mode. The results will be released only for the candidates who have qualified the exam.
